The fine-grain 90W-Ni-Fe heavy alloy with average grain size less than 5 µm and sintering density over than 99% has been fabricated by powder metallurgy, and dynamic shearing experiment has been done by using the technology of HOPKINSON bar and d8 mm×50 mm specimen, of which the hit pressure was 9×105 Pa and 14×105 Pa, respectively. The microstructure was examined by scanning electron microscopy. The test results show that the fine-grain tungsten is easier to form adiabatic shear band than the general sintered
tungsten alloy, and the fine-grain can make the adiabatic shear band extend easier. The fine-grain
tungsten alloy may has more chance for the armour-piercing projectile to form good penetration performance.
